Baauer is Bad Ass!
Happy 2013 all.
Yes, this is my most recent entry into the blog, so apologies for the extreme delay in getting something put up. It has been a hectic start to the year so I’ve only really found time now to inform you of what I’ve been listening to over the Christmas break.
From earlier posts such as the Flosstradamus entry, you will see that I’m a massive fan of the ‘Trap’ movement that is currently taking over the airwaves, both underground and commercially. One of the most impressive cats on the rise in this category is 22-year-old Brooklyn-based DJ/Producer ‘Baauer’.
Baauer erupted onto the scene with his monster track Harlem Shake, which is on serious rotation in clubs across the world. He has since followed it up with a number of trap-heavy beats which have been spun by some of the genres finest including Hudson Mohawke and Lunice (TNGHT) dropping ‘DumDum’ during their SXSW set, while Diplo, Flosstradamus and Rustie have featured Baauer on BBC Essential Mixs and the likes.
Bauuers latest release (and some would argue greatest), is a colab track with veteran hip-hop heavy weight Just Blaze, and oh-me-oh-my is it a banger! The track ‘Higher’ is a monster, and rivals Jay-Z & Kanye’s – ‘Ni**as in Paris’, in terms of bigger builds, bolder synths, and pure raw energy.
Don’t believe me, then have a listen for yourself.
So get familiar – this summer, Baauer’s beats are going to be shaking up sweaty dance floors and will cause numerous noise complaints from narky neighbours.
