Damn Son, where’d you find this?
If you have been wondering where all this new hip-hop influenced electronic music that DJs like Diplo, A-Trak, and Ta-Ku have been playing is coming from… Well then we have the answer. Their name is Flosstradamus and the DJ duo is the pioneers behind the recent “trap music” movement.
Don’t get me wrong… trap music has been around for years. The genre which is bassed around the use of the 808 Roland drum machine has been sampled by rappers such as Young Jeezy and TI for the last decade, but the DJ duo Flosstradamus along with mixing buddy Baauer have brought this style back into the lime light with a number of releases, including this number ‘Luuk out Gurl’
But what is ‘Trap’ music?
Trap music is simply hip-hop infused with electronic beats creating a new type of dance music. In laymen’s terms, Trap music would be best described as a recipe;
- 1/3 hip hop (tempo and song structure similar) – however vocals are usually pitched lower or higher
- 1/3 dubstep (similar drum arrangements, different builds and drops)
- 1/3 dub (Low frequency focus and strong emphasis on repetitiveness throughout a song)
This sub genre fuses 3 of the most popular styles of music, so expect to hear a lot more of it in the upcoming months!
