Top 5 Favourite Melbourne International Comedy Festival Shows
It’s on again. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival show. If you can’t see many acts this year make sure you head to at least one of these.
1. Ross Noble
After maybe Louis C.K. (who unfortunately is not at MICF), Ross Noble has to be our favourite stand-up. The sheer insanity of his sets, that seem to come from random things from the audience, result in some of the finest, unique stand up you will ever see. And this year he’s doing an arena show. That will be bananas.
2. David O’Doherty
David O’Doherty sounds and looks like The I.T. Crowd’s Chris O’Dowd, but he’s much funnier. He sits on stage with a small keyboard and plays music and tells jokes, and what more could you possibly want. Nothing, is the answer. Absolutely nothing.
3. Aunty Donna & The Fax Machine Shop
Aunty Donna are four local boys that are making a massive splash in the Melbourne comedy scene. Their comedy is rude and absurd, and most of all hilarious. This show was massive at last year’s Fringe Festival, and they’ve also had an awesome web series you should check out. Remember, all their videos are NSFW…
Upfront is a 2 hour extravaganza featuring a line-up of some of the funniest women in the world. Hosted by the hilarious Geraldine Quinn and her guitar, and including ladies such as Hannah Gadsby, Cal Wilson, Josie Long and Fiona O’Loughlin, this is a show that puts to bed the idea that comedy is man’s game.
5. Adam Hills
You probably know who Adam Hills is.
Science has shown that after a decent dose of comedy the average human being needs a couple of sneaky drinks with their friends and a round or two of bowling, so swing past one of the Strike locations (QV or Melbourne Central) after these shows (or any at MICF) and debrief with your mates.
